Creation Care
If the earth is the Lord's and everything in it, then it is time we step up to taking care of what is rightfully His.
Creation Declares the Glory of God
"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world."
Psalm 19:1-4
Humanity's relationship to creation needs to be based on a biblical understanding of God's relationship to creation. In pursuit of living in the ways of Jesus, we need to ask what our relationship is to all of creation. Our first task is to understand Jesus' relationship to creation since he is our Lord. Our relationship with all of creation must be in keeping with Jesus' relationship with all of creation.
When we explore what the Bible says about creation, we interpret each text in light of our relationship to Jesus and his relationship to all of creation. Since scripture teaches us that Christ has created the universe, gives it life and sustains it, and has reconciled everything to God, then our actions should participate in Christ's creating, sustaining, and reconciling work.
Jesus Christ's Relationship to All of Creation: Creator, Sustainer, Reconciler, Consumator, true Imago Dei, Heir of all things, Lord
"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross."
Colossians 1:15-20
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all people."
John 1:1-3

What You Can Do
Creation care starts with simple actions like making sure we throw away our trash or if we see that bag floating in the wind, we pick it up and throw it away for whoever forgot to. It means we recycle where we can, but even better is to up-cycle: make use of what we have by giving them new uses.
Examples of DIY Upcycling
Many creative individuals have found ways to create upcycling projects that anyone can do at home. Some of these projects include:
» Creating cereal, spice or cooking ingredient containers from old jars and bottles
» Creating wallets from tires
» Creating lawn furniture from old pallets
» Creating chairs from campaign signs
» Using old water bottles to grow plants indoors (Great for hanging!)
» Making coasters, jewelry, magnets or charms from old board games
We would love to hear your ideas! Please contact us and tell us what you are doing!
