Starve Your Life

Let's have a Season of Lent in preparation for Easter in seeking the face of the one who loves us by starving our life so we can find real love and life again. Join us with as we call for 40 Days of holistic fasting from from Ash Wednesday, on February 17th, 2010, and ends on Palm Sunday, March 28, 2010. Following Isaiah 58 and Joel 2, this is a call to starve ourselves so that we might see a renewed Spirit of Love on the face of the earth.

	starve your hunger. Moses fasted 40 days and mentored a spiritual son named Joshua, which means the Lord saves. Elijah fasted 40 days to break off the spell of Jezebel and threw his mantle on a double portion son Elisha, which means the Lord saves. And John the Baptist fasted in the desert and prepared the way for a double portion son named Jesus, which means the Lord saves. Jesus fasted 40 days and came out of the desert "in the power of the spirit " that unleashed the apostolic glory of the eternal Son of God into the earth. It's time to give up our appetites.
starve your apathy. ap�a�thy 1. absence or suppression of passion, emotion, or excitement. 2. lack of interest in or concern for things that others find moving or exciting. HIV/AIDS killed 2.1 million people in Africa in 2006. 1.1 billion people in the (mostly developing) world are without access to safe water. Nearly three billion people live on less than two dollars a day. It's time to wake up.
	starve your technology. The average American home has a television on for nearly eight hours a day, with the average American adult watching nearly five hours of television per day. Teenagers talk on average at least 1-2 hours on a cell phone per day. 30% of all Americans own a portable MP3 player (Podcasting News). $2.84 billion in revenue was generated from U.S. porn websites sites in 2006 (TechCrunch). It's time to turn it off.
starve your consumption. North America only has eight per cent of the world's population, but consumes one third of the world's resources and produces one half of the world's garbage. How many things will you throw away today? This week? Imagine the changes that could be made from your "garbage" that could be reused, composted or recycled. Enough is enough.
	starve your greed. If American Christians tithed their full 10%, instead of the actual 2.59%, churches would gain $156 BILLION per year. If churches donated: $5 billion could help stop the 29,000 deaths a day around the globe among children under 5 from preventable diseases. $7 billion could provide basic education for the world's children. We must share.

It's time we sought real love, wrought with compassion, worship and sacrifice. Through our rich histories, many have fasted and it brought new beginnings. May we seek God for 40 days to seek a new kind of authentic love. It is time to pray. It is time to fast. Starving our hunger, yes. But taking it farther. Starving our apathy. Our technology. Our consumption. Our greed. Our senses. This is a call to 40 days of starvation. Let's have a Season of Lent in seeking the face of the One who loves us by starving our life so we can find real love and life again. Now, I know we love Lost (okay, speaking for myself), but what would happen in America if for 40 days we sealed the electronic pollution that flows nightly into our living rooms and spent our strength seeking the Lord? What if tens of thousands of fathers and mothers across our nation fasted for 40 days repenting and cleansing themselves of inward toleration of sexual immorality, pornography, addiction to food and entertainment, and materialism? What if they prayed daily for their spiritual and physical children to see them renewed in Christ and freed from rebellion, from addictions, depression, and suicide? What if the young generation fasted for 40 days to be cleansed from lust, media addiction, rebellion toward there parents, believing that a double portion of the Holy Spirit would come upon there lives? What if we are preparing a generation for one of the greatest times in history? And if so, what if tens of thousands of both generations fast together and cry out to God in a Joel 2 moment for great returning to the Lord? What would we see? Join us with as we call for 40 Days of holistic fasting from Ash Wednesday on February 17, 2010, and ends on Palm Sunday, March 28, 2010. Following Isaiah 58 and Joel 2, this is a call to fast our appetites, our clothing, our possessions and our apathy, so that we might see a renewed Spirit of Love on the face of the earth.
