Dear brothers and sisters, enemies and friends,

This is our manifesto to revolt.

But to all you soothsayers, naysayers and pundits—we say that this is not what you think.

For too long we have positioned our opinionated armaments and wistful actions against the things that rub us wrong and never set us right. We have spent our hard-earned wages, tax-payer trust and fanciful dreams against so many things only to find ourselves tired, wasted, spent and defeated; our wallets stolen and storehouses empty. It is here we dare to sing, “No more!”

But let us be clear—this revolt has never been about overthrowing governing might or toppling wayward leadership out of anger and angst. Rather, we root ourselves in love because we know love is the only thing that has ever sustained the test of time. Where hatred, slavery and oppression may last for a season, these things always succumb to life and to freedom; to mercy and to justice.

So we strum the chords and play the melodies that echo, “Revolt towards, my friends and loved ones! Revolt towards!”

Towards love. Towards the Jesus who gave His life to show us love!

Towards community and towards each other. Towards creativity. Towards ingenuity. Towards the poor and towards our enemies. Towards the dying and the wounded. Towards healing, signs and wonders that there is more than meets the eye. Towards the stranger and the ones in the margins. Towards the have-beens and the have-nots. Towards peace and non-violence. Towards earth, land, water and sky. Towards our neighbors and our neighborhoods. Towards resurrection and restoration. And towards the Spirit within giving us a new song to sing!

And we dare to sing! Because we are a part of the greatest movement of love the world will ever see! We will let it be heard from the asphalt rubble to the concrete jungles and to the towering rooftops above, that love is on the move!

And we dare to sing! Because we are weak, but Love is strong. Because we know love is stronger than fear, stronger than injustice and stronger than hate.

And we dare to sing! Because revolt is stronger than past-tense revolutions. Because we believe that the noun and verb found in revolt can and should happen simultaneously, where the event and action of love are ongoing and never-ceasing.

And we dare to sing! Because we know we are not alone. Because all around us lay an army. Though dry bones she may be, she is taking flight and taking shape with the flesh and blood of active, relentless love.

And we dare to sing! Because all of heaven is waiting on us for the restoration of all things, reminding us even now that the answers we seek and the tools we need are already resting in our minds, in our hearts and in our hands, just waiting to be awakened.

And we dare to sing! Because we know that in the untold masses all around us lay the bastions of hope for a new way of living where light pervades darkness and the darkness cannot and will not overcome it.

So gather your daughters! Gather your sons! Gather your friends and gather your loved ones! It’s time to fill the streets! It’s time to have a parade! Where the marching band leads us onward and the banner reads “Love!” Because what is a revolt without our rubbered soles meeting the road?

We, this band of blue-collared workers and white-collared technophiles—we as entrepreneurs, media makers, thinkers, activists and creatives—we join together to say we will do what ever it takes to lead love on. We will live “on earth as it is in heaven” and will not stop till our place here looks like that place there—where loves rules the day, tears are wiped away and all that hinders freedom is torn off of us. We will not stop till love overturns every unjust deed and rights every wrong.

So we revolt towards a new way of living, where Love knows us and we are known by our love.

We will make our own clothes if we have to, cultivate our own food and dumpster dive the left overs that the big box chains have thrown away. We will educate our children and cook our own meals to the soundtrack of our modern-day hymns. We will live together and dine together in the hidden spaces and worn out places that society has written-off and cast away. We will turn off our LEDs, LCDs and flat-screen TVs and turn on conversation, community action, crafting, dreaming and love-scheming. We will swap and trade and share the fruit of our labor so that non one goes without and none are turned away. We will share all that we learn and all that we know through hand-crafted websites and photocopied zines, workshops and skill-sharing co-ops. We will ride bikes, skateboard and walk as often as we can and when we can’t, we will carpool or ride public transportation. We will make art that makes a mockery of the sleekest ad campaigns and sing our songs, hymns and melodies over one another as encouragement to press on yet another day. We will live with less and thereby, live with more. This is a revolt towards a new way of living.

And best of all, we will smile with that hint of tomfoolery on our faces, because we will know no matter what comes at us, no matter what they call us and no matter how they try to stop us, love has already won.
